For this week’s blog, I decided to tweet my thoughts about the shootings that occurred at Michigan State University and El Paso. I honestly was upset about these shootings because things like this are becoming a daily occurrence, as if it’s becoming routine/old news if you will. I won’t dive too much into it here since I’m not trying to stir anything up but I tweeted my thoughts thinking I would get no interactions as I normally do with my tweets since I have such a small following as it is; however, that was not the case. I had a tiny little thread that got 2 likes, which granted, isn’t a lot but it’s more than I normally would get but on top of that, a random person who I do not follow and they do not follow me commented saying that, “Yet the drugs been brought across the border have killed more people than the guns have and y’all don’t say 💩”. I honestly was not expecting someone to interact with me, let alone comment/“argue” with my tweet and it made me wonder that if we talk about current issues like gun control, pro life/choice, etc. then that brings out more opinions on Twitter (which is very on brand of Twitter users) rather than me tweeting about Sanrio and everyday life as a college student. This was the first time I got a bit of traction when it comes to interactions with my tweets, even if some of them were a bit negative.
